I recently was interviewed on KSL Morning News in Utah about my latest book I’m The Scariest Thing In The Jungle!

Not only about Dave’s books (which are awesome), but also about his experience of working on Guardians, with bonus storyboard panels!

I just put up Sandy’s funeral, I sequence I boarded for ROTG, on my website. http://davederrick.com/story-boards/sandys-funeral/

Thank you for posting these. It’s great to compare the sequence with the one posted before.

I just uploaded a deleted scene I did on Rise of the Guardians. You can see the whole thing on my website http://davederrick.com/story-boards/deleted-scene-dealing-with-sandys-death/

Another, different take on a sequence. I prefer the current, more silent and solemn version (which Dave also did), but it is great to see the different dynamics. More “what if”…

I just uploaded a full sequence I did on Rise of the Guardians on my website http://davederrick.com/story-boards/easter-destroyed/ This was one of the few sequences in the film that only I worked on. Every different version of the film had an iteration of this scene, characters and location changed but not the artist. Even though it’s a normal sized sequence I probably did more drawings for this sequence than any other on Rise of the Guardians.

Yay! More boards! Thank you Dave for sharing these.

This was one of my favorite scenes to board on Rise of the Guardians. I just put the whole scene on my website. In the end this version was to ambitious for the final film. But there are some things that stuck. Originally Bunny had a more mechanical warren similar to the movie Hop or Charlie and the Chocolate factory. We wanted to stay away from anything mechanical and make it feel like a natural tribal cycle of nature. Everywhere Bunny landed or touched blossomed with life. Some moments stuck through to the end and other were too expensive. The process of the egg coloration was developed in this version with the pollen, vines and rivers coloring the eggs. A few things that wish we could have had in the final version were North riding a reindeer like a cowboy, giant bioluminescent danelion seeds, egg timer and an avalanche of eggs. But the movie wasn’t about bunny so the warren scene was pared back significantly for the final film.

I’ll try to get some complete scenes up on my website but til then here are a few more panels from the climax.

More of Dave’s board- Cupcake transforming a nightmare into a unicorn, plus a bonus dream dinosaur.

I finally got the complete Sleigh Launch scene up on my website. This was the first scene I boarded on the film and unlike most of my scenes it stayed unchanged throughout production.

Here are a few story panels for Sandy’s intro I boarded for ROTG. I’ll try to get the full sequence up soon on my website; davederrick.com

More of Dave’s storyboard goodness!

I worked on Rise of the Guardians for two years as a Story Artist. I enjoyed North’s bombastic attitude and his swords. Early on Gabe Hordos did a cool drawing of North drawing his swords simultaneously. While it looked cool I could see how it could be”disarming” for North- so I made this gory Christmas card. Enjoy!

*gigglesnort* I remember that one! XD
